Committees |
Education Outreach Committee: Further discussion regarding COPE’s involvement in continuing “Being a Girl in Today’s World” workshops to the current 6th graders in Volusia County schools. Dr. Amy Hall, Director of Guidance, Volusia School District, invites COPE members to attend and offer middle school Guidance Counselors sign up for presentations at the meeting, Thursday, Feb. 9th, 2012, about 9:00am at Hinson Middle School. Richard Stickney, (ERAU Dir. Office of Diversity Initiatives) and Cindy Jackson have volunteered to attend.
Dr. Amy Hall also directs Webster University Grad. Programs. She invited Dr. Karen Samuels to speak to her class about COPE’s project in the schools. Dr. Hall will offer this training workshop to her graduate students and interested COPE volunteers. Webster U. graduate students who deliver these workshops for/with COPE, will receive credit as part of their course requirements! Dr. Samuels is scheduled to speak at Dr. Hall’s class on Monday, Feb. 13th, 2012 to begin the education/training.
Website updates: Continued need to look into using another website/system. Volunteers are needed !!! Margarita Tartakovsky’s blog is now connected to our website. Margarita has added a new blog for the COPE website. 3 Ideas for Ditching the Diet Mentality. www.cope-ecf.org Please check them out and forward these terrific contributions to anyone you know who might benefit.
Facebook updates: We are now on Facebook. Check it out.http://www.facebook.com/pages/COPE/172691199440426?v=wall&filter=1 Please post on the COPE Facebook page your comments, any photos from COPE events, and any related information to support the efforts of positive body image and prevention of disordered eating. Thanks so much to the COPE volunteers who have been sharing some fabulous inspiration on the website. Check it out!
2012 NEDAW WALK: Current committee is working on dates, locations and collaboration for a fun walk, yoga class and live music at the beach. Target date is early June after Volusia/Flagler public schools are released. Committee includes all COPE members present at the meeting of Jan. 16th, 2012. Cindy Jackson will assist in arranging for live music performance, Karen Underwood has agreed to guide a yoga class. The BandShell was considered a possible central location and popular venue.

COPE IN THE COMMUNITY: OmAwayFromHome Yoga Studio, 386 South Atlantic Ave., Ormond Beach, FL 32176,386-265-1966 will highlight COPE for the month of February, 2012. We are invited to set up a display of information, a donation box, & info. on their website. Each of the Sunday, community classes, offered @ 4pm, will be dedicated to COPE all month long! Come support COPE and check out OM studio. |

YOGAWOMAN: The Film, COPE will sponsor another showing of the film at OmAwayFromHome, on Sunday, Feb. 12th, at 2:30pm, followed by a free community class. Donations for this event are dedicated to COPE. Volunteers are needed. Upcoming Activites: |
Americathe Beautiful II: The Thin Commandments, premiered in Los Angeles. COPE plans to offer a FREE showing of this documentary in March, 2012. Richard Stickney, Director of Diversity Initiatives at ERAU has offered to co-sponsor this film night. Dates are being discussed. Reserve the date: Tuesday, March 13th, tentatively. We are hoping to screen the film at the Auditorium in the Willie Miller Instructional Center in the Lemerand Complex. Volunteers are needed for this event. This film will be offered to the community at large and we are hoping to send announcements to local news media. NEDAW walks in Florida: : Orlando(March 3rd) and Boca Raton (Jan. 21st at 9:30am)
